Famous in Tottenham

It seems that some people outside the Labour Party are following my NEC campaign.

I've been forwarded a copy of this email:

"From: Justin Hinchcliffe
Subject: CLP shocker
Date: Monday, 2 August, 2010, 13:48

Tottenham CLP has nominated the ever-so right wing Luke Akehurst for the NEC. A Tottenham Tory spokesman said: "Of the 3 major parties here in Tottenham, it's clear that the Conservative are - by far - the most liberal and progressive. Luke Akehurst has more in common with John Redwood than David or Nick. This is yet another example of the Tottenham CLP lurching to the extreme right."ENDs"

Being described as a right-winger by Justin is slightly alarming, given his own political history.

Here's what he was like as a lad: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/justin-time-1576357.html , as described by David Aaronovitch:

"Justin, a 14-year-old delegate to next week's Tory conference, is one of life's rebels. Staring into the camera with the implacable self-confidence of extreme youth, Justin has revolted against his left-wing teachers ("But I don't want to do my own thing!"), told his single-parent mum that he thinks her benefits should be cut (presumably there is still time for him to be forcibly adopted by, say, John Redwood) and though living in Tottenham, is a Chelsea fan. In a tribute to John Gummer's policies on the environment, Justin urges the homeless to stop living off the state and feed themselves with fish from the Thames and fruit from road-side trees. His love for animals, particularly pit bull terriers, marks him out as being a young man of sentiment - one who wears other people's hearts on his sleeve. Justin has never thought the thinkable."

LOL. Some of us have grown up and moved on. Is the best you can do - to use some 16 y-o tripe from the Indy when I was just 14?

I was responding in a similar spirit to your own clearly humourous email.

You mean a private 'mock' press release to Brother Flett? Didn't know you two were in touch with each other, given the thing he has said about you...

Regardless of how much of a twit Justin was (or possibly is?), the fact is that Luke is probably slightly to the right of Clegg/Cameron.

At least Justin and Luke (presumably now as well as when Blair did it) agree on cutting benefits to single mothers. Wouldn't be surprised if they agree on nuclear weapons, Israel, war in Iraq, PFI, etc, etc, etc, too. No wonder most people see no difference between Labour and Tory!

Why keep picking on single Mothers?

We all make mistakes, many made them and could not stay in a relationship and the father probably does not earn enough to support them, by the time he pays his rent and bills. This is unfortunately modern life relationships do break up.

Most single mothers I know work hard or are trying desperately to find a job, but the earnings is not enough to pay the rent and all other bills.

Modern life requires a couple to be both in full time work to pay the rent and bills and then there is not enough.

There has always been single mums in the 60's and 70's, but they were able to survive as rents were not so high and you were able to struggle with 1 wage.

Instead of hammering single mothers, why not reduce the cost of housing and bring down inflation so people could survive on one wage?

There should be controls to bring the cost of house prices and rents down to affordable levels. This astronomical hyper housing inflation is causing problems that are social and wrecking our economy.

Labour had 13 years to put this boom and bust economy to an end and bring in stability, but instead they chose to ride it and bask in the boom.

Justin was and is a huge prat on the Haringey political stage. Indeed, he isn't even on the stage, he is lurking around with nothing to do and only a fat former Councillor for company.

He and Dobbie have to realise that the Tories were well and truly smacked in both the parliamentary seats and on the Council too. A beautiful victory for Labour across the borough. Whilst we didn't beat Lynne, we sure will next time.

Well said Bob ;-)

Is Traitor Dobbie enjoying it in the Tories, I wonder??
