No ID

I couldn't help feeling sorry for the speaker from the No2ID campaign who couldn't get into the conference to address a fringe meeting this lunchtime because they er... didn't have any ID.

Probably not as difficult as it used to be to get into my university's Student's Association (not Union, thankfully) on a Friday night when Catherine Stihler (then Taylor) was president ;-)

And when you won't be allowed to use any public service or even walk down the street without your ID card at the ready, will it be so f****** funny then?

I should have added that it was difficult if you didn't have your Student ID card. Getting forgetful - a bad habit that may land me in the cells the minute ID cards proper are introduced.

I don't have any real problem with ID cards in principle but I think they will need to be Europe-wide and I think they will have negligible effect on terrorism, and that seems to be a central part of the Governments case for them

ID cards: These ID cards are more than that, it is what is behind it all!! This could be used by a future Tory government against us all

Such a system would surely be a target for terrorism-We all know that electronic data can be corrupted and eventually it would get hacked. There would be thousands of people with access to it, all it takes is one of these people to get bitter and twisted, then could wipe millions of people from the system at a stroke-these unfortunate people would be deleted from society as if never existed.A lot of this work is obviously going to be contracted out to India and the sub continent at a much greater risk of the date base being held for ransom!!
The Information could be misused by governments as done by the Tories in the 80's with the economic league which blacklisted any one who criticised the Government & system or belonged to organisations that did, so its been done and I don't trust that it will not be misused.

Yes - of course - this is just more data for the government to 'loose', putting us all in danger.

If true rather than one of those urban myths this is quite funny though isn't it?
