Council by-election result

Only one council by-election last night, but a great result for Labour and a hilariously bad one for the Tories (6th, with 1.6% of the vote).

Cilfynydd Ward, Rhondda Cynon Taff CBC. Lab gain from LD. Lab 331 (43.5%, +5.0%), LibDem 252 (33.1%, -19.9%), Ind 85 (11.2%, +11.2%), Plaid 69 (8.8% +0.2%), Green 14 (1.8%, +1.8%), Con 12 (1.6%, +1.6%). Swing from LD to Lab of 12.5% since 1 May.

This is obviously a very encouraging result which almost certainly demonstrates the wisdom, foresight and steadfastness of our Great Leader.

The fightback has begun. Bring it on.

Mr Akehurst.

You poke fun at democracy. At least 12 people had a candidate they believed worth voting for this time round and chose to exercise their right to do so. And this in the Rhondda - hardly one of the Conservative Party's heartlands.

Look at the number of by-elections where there is no Labour candidate (and the ever growing list of Councils without a single Labour person elected).

12 votes may not be many but I am delighted that those 12 people had an opportunity to vote in a free and fair election .... now, remind me about voting in Russia.

Sorry Sebastion, your knowledge of Welsh geography is worse than your knowledge of politics.

Cilfynydd (Pro. Kil-Vun-eth)is not in the Rhondda, tis in Taff Vale.

Even funnier the Liberal Democraps were screaming "dirty tactics, unfair etc" when an independant source pointed out that despite the Liberal Democrap "campaigning" for a 20 mph speed limit through the elongated village off the A470
the Liberal Candidates brother ( and a Councillor else where in RCT) was convicted of driving through Cilfynydd at 47 mph

When I saw a copy of the leaflet -slogan "20 mph through the village, unless your name is Powell", well ROFLOL

How long will it before Lukey Boy reports really encouraging omens for Labour from his tea leaves?

There just might be a correlation but I wouldn't bet on it.

One doesn't ordinarily find tea leaves in a fine claret, does one?

Oh, fine claret is far too SDP - what would Essex Man think? Remember Luke likes aspirational people, but not taste or anything as Guardianista as that!

Mike

For a regular reader I'm surprised to see that you have forgotten that I share with the late Roy Jenkins a reputation as a claret drinker - or more specifically a Medoc drinker. I'm also partial to Barolo and Coonawarra, the odd drop of Veuve Cliquot when I've got something to celebrate, and in the summer I'd recommend Verdicchio, Vernaccia, Lachrima Christi and Greco di Tufo.

Just because I don't often agree with Polly Toynbee it doesn't mean that I can't buy into the Guardian's cultural, wine and restaurant coverage ... after all I do live in Stoke Newington!

I don't normally moderate comments but the two above were both unpleasant enough to merit it.

Why delete them? So much for freedom of speech. Typical behaviour from Labour when they hear something they don't agree with

I rather prefer those Italian whites, Luke! Although I am a renowned gewurztraminophile....oh, and how come you don't often agree with Polly, as she's a social democrat whatever way you look at it.

I rather appreciate her stand against religionism: actually I agree with her on most things, truth be told, but than I wear my Guardianista badge with pride....
