Gippsland by-election

We're not the only country with a by-election or two.

In Australia voting is taking place in the Gippsland seat in rural Victoria. It's been held by the National Party and its predecessors since 1922.

Labor are unlikely to gain it but might get a swing in their favour in the first federal by-election since Kevin Rudd took power.

Result after transfers in the 2007 General Election was Nat 55.9%, ALP 44.1%.

ABC's News' Antony Green's profile of the seat is here.

If anyone in Australia is reading this and knows the result before I post it here, please can they post it in the comments.

the nats have won, 61-39 approximately 2PP, swing 5% away from the govt. Both the ALP and Nats have -8% on the primaries, but the nats are getting 80+ of the lib preferences to win

As you probably know Malcolm Powers, Henley Agent, and South East Regional Organiser, has indicated his intention of quitting the UK for the sunny climes of OZ.shortly after ,what he takes for granted will be a Party defeat...He could offer a hand in the by election but after the balls he made in Henley his intervention would not be welcome..

There was also a by-election for a seat in the Victorian parliament; ALP hold with a reduced majority (over an independent of some kind or other).

Sounds like a good place for you to head off to for a spot of campaigning. See you back here in about 100 years.

Don't believe a thing that failed Mayoral candidate Boff tells you. Gippsland is most famous for Gippsland Blue which, despite its appealing name, is not a dead Tory parrot but a stinky veined cheese.
