Mr Benn

Please no, Mr Benn senior, you've done enough damage to the Labour Party over the years not to need to make a comeback.

And wouldn't you need to go through a panel process and be asked questions like "will you obey the whip" before being allowed to run for Parliament again?

On the other hand I can see that the Campaign Group are running pretty low on youthful talent, so maybe they need some retreads.

Excluding Katy Clark, I think Diane Abbott is one of the youngest Campaign Group MPs...

I was never a Bennite but he has become very much a revered elder statesman these days.

Disobeying the whip is not wrong; the key is to retain sufficient influence that you can actually do something to improve the welfare of your constituents.

Oh Luke - you're such a spoil-sport! Apart from anything else, Tony would actually have a pretty good chance of winning the seat: a good result whatever your tradition in the party I'd have thought.

I hope he goes for it!

Yes, woe is the damage done to the labour party by acknowledging its class character and fighting for socialism... much worse than the Iraq war, PFI schemes that pour public funds into private profits, the selling of arms to dodgy dictatorships, the quashing of the SFO investigation in the name of the international arms trade, the utter failure to expand democracy one iota, the banning of protest near parliamnet, the silencing of the parties own conference, the riding of turbo charged right wing ideas with the odd harking back to "Oh remember we done that minimum below decency threshold wage for the poor benighted workers!", expanding heathrow, renewing our US dependent nuclear death roackets, attempting to foist GM foods on the public, ignoring popular sentiment for the not one bit altered EU constituition, the most restrtictive trade union laws in the western world, etc etc etc.

The Party wants to do a whitewash and stop an investigation of widespread child sex abuse in, say, Hackney.

"Will you obey the whip"?

Luke would!
