A slamdunk for the forces of light in today's CAC (Conference Arrangements Committee) and NCC (National Constitutional Committee) elections - they sound boring but determine how conference is run and the policing of the rulebook.

I'm very disappointed Lynne Jones didn't get elected. And George McManus for that matter. The idea that the people who are already running the show winning these positions too is somehow some sort of great victory for the 'forces of light' is rather sad.

Luke...can you clarify what you mean when you describe the Labour First slate as the 'forces of light' and presumably mean the CLGA are the forces of darkness.

Of course Luke thinks he's on the side of the angels. Don't we all? I just think it's healthy for there to be plurality of positions in these elected party positions. I guess I would have indulged in some triumphalist nonsense if we'd won them all, so I'll let him off...
As for 'anonymous 10:41' - I'm tragic? I feel fine, to be honest. Have never considered Respect to be an alternative for me, and don't intend to engage with you on the other matters.
If you want to try firing cheap shots, maybe put your name to them?

Well I am old enough to remember previous elections.
That includes the 1964-70 Labour Government.
If the nut cases and frustrated spinsters/Onanistic members of Respect, CLPD, LRC etc. wish to get thier thrills out of reconstructions/reenactments of the 1980's well, thats fine by me.
Just keep your dreams to yourselves,

Gareth, leaving the completely unnecessary nastiness aside, let's consider some of your key assumptions:
The first is that those who support the LRC or the CLPD are not 'active Labour members' - quite the reverse is true. If you were to look back to the letters of support for John McDonnell that went to the press, urging parliamentary nominations, you would have seen that it was rife with councillors, MPs, CLP chairs, secretaries, other positions, Branch chairs, secretaries, etc. union officials, NEC members, etc. While, of course, many Labour activists are not of the left, to try and pretend that the left sit around whinging while the right get on with the job is simply fiction-writing: the evidence blows it out of the water.
The second assumption is that people on the left wish to recreate the 1980s. As I recall the 1980s were dominated by a 'conviction politician' obsessed with Britishness and neo-liberal economics. Not really my bag. As for the party through the bulk of the 80s - run by the right, deliberately picking fights with the left, losing elections: not my bag, either.
While those on the left may make historic references, and be proud of the achievements and history of our movement (and I might add, Luke fits that bill as well, from what I've read on this blog) - we are very much looking forward. Perhaps you should try it.

We all (left and right) want to win the next election Gareth. Even with its worst excesses this New Labour Government is better than a Tory one. My issue with people like you is that you only slither out the gutter to make hurtful, stupid and pointless remarks. Unless you have something fruitful to say (remarkable though that might sound) you should make it, if not, stay under the rock you came from.

The Labour Party as we knew it ie democratic and accountable with sovereign policy-making Conference has most definitely been killed. I believe the name is even being changed.....

When Twigg is elected an MP presumably Lynne Jones gets his CAC seat? He wouldn't hold that as a member of the government would he? Not again?
