Party on comrades!

The Cruddas campaign has sent me an email inviting me to host a party.

They want me to throw open my home for a house party.

Well, any excuse ...

But perhaps most of my friends might be a bit upset to get round to Beatty Road N16 expecting claret and nibbles and find they are there "to discuss the campaign and the state of the Labour Party in their areas ... to help Jon win this election."

This is not America.

We are not in the middle of the Iowa caucuses.

Jon Cruddas isn't the mockney Howard Dean.

And just in case he is - let's remember that Howard Dean lost. He excited all the excitable students and activists and scared the hell out of everyone else.

Will Jon's own house party be in Dagenham or Notting Hill?

Luke -

No, Dean didn't win the Democratic nomination. The equivalent there would be leader of the party, although the equivalence there is poor. Dean is currently the chair of the DNC - an organisational role, as Cruddas wants the deputy leadership to be. Membership has risen and the fifty-state strategy means that funding is being given to all levels of the democratic party and across the US as a whole. While the systems are different and membership of a party has different connotations, the strategy of keeping the heartlands engaged, fighting the marginals and tackling the strongly Republican seats seems to be working.

"Will Jon's own house party be in Dagenham or Notting Hill?"

A snide, nasty and uncomradely remark. You should be ashamed of yourself.

What's uncomradely about highlighting that his commitment to east London doesn't extend to his own domestic and educational arrangements? Is he ashamed of the facts?

Oh sorry, I keep forgetting he is a living saint/Nye Bevan reincarnated and not to be criticised. I need to be careful in case his cargo cult issues a fatwa.

I'm in a good mood. I'd be a lot nastier if I was in a bad mood.

Well whatever mood you're in you're really not doing Hazie any good. I'm now wavering on my 2nd preference myself and before your Cruddas attack I might have given it to her!

I wonder how the Democrats will do with Dean directing their campaign. I take it you will be supporting their counterparts, though Luke? ;o)

I suppose Jon Cruddas should change the rules on second residences, eh? Perhaps with all that executive power he has?

Where shall we draw the line? Somewhere arbitrary, I guess.

Just remember. The daily mail is always right.

Luke's right. Howard Dean was always clearly a surefire loser for the Democrats last time out, unlike the smooth election-winning machine that was John Kerry (look him up, he was famous once).

Anyway, with the emergence of very gentle internal debate within the party in recent weeks, it's noticeable how people from Luke's wing of the party have so struggled to deal with this basic democratic concept. I've read more snidey personal digs at other Labour party members on here in the past week than all the Labour left blogs put together.

I thought John Kerry was too leftwing too. I would have backed Edwards.

The comments about Cruddas's house are another example of how this blog seems to be getting really negative and even unpleasant.

I can think of several people from Luke's 'wing' of the party. right up to the most senior level, who could have all sorts of accusations thrown at them about their personal and living arrangements but if I want to read that kind of drivel I could buy the Mail on Sunday. Indeed, they do have that kind of stuff flung at them, and feeding that agenda helps no one.
