Meetings
I was at Brentwood & Ongar CLP last night for another debate about Trident replacement versus Kate Hudson, Chair of CND.
Some bloke called John McDonnell was also supposed to be speaking, but pulled out at the last minute...
I've now been invited to debate the same subject at CND's fringe meeting at the Compass annual conference vs. Jon Trickett MP on Sat 9 June, so I look forward to seeing some of the regular commenters on this blog in the audience.
Meanwhile, Hackney South CLP was holding its supporting nominations meeting, and went for Brown + Blears. Hazel beat Alan Johnson in the 3rd round of voting by 13 votes to 11. Benn came third. Harman and Cruddas had got only 1 vote each on the first round, and Hain zero, which tallies with the zero he's got so far of the 100+ members of my own CLP, Hackney North, I've spoken to.
Any one got any numbers for voting figures on DL nominations in their own CLP they want to share?

Hain got 0 votes in Holborn and St Pancrass nomination meeting too.
Yesterday Islington North CLP had their nomination meeting. Harman got their nomination

In Westminster North, Cruddas beat Harman by one vote with no-one else obtaining any significant support among the members there. One voted for Blears, none for Johnson or Hain. I'm supporting Hilary Benn who does have some support, but unfortunately I'm not actually a member of the CLP.
The nominations are going up on the Labour Party leadership website. Blears has strong support from Scotland for some reason.

Greenwich and Woolwich CLP holds its meeting next Wednesday. Hazel spoke to a large group from the constituency last night at a Charlton Branch fundraiser and was very well received (except by our dear Council Leader and JC supporter!)

Harman won Islington North and Islington South & Finsbury last night, beating Cruddas into second in both. Interestingly, Jeremy Corbyn was repeatedly asked by members to speak for a candidate, but stayed resolutely silent.

Johnson got Tooting's nomination, 14 votes to Harman's 11 in the final round. Benn got no 1st preference votes, Cruddas just the one. Hain was 3rd, Blears 4th.

Kingston & Surbiton went for Cruddas last night with Johnson in second. A couple of votes each for Benn & Hain, one for Harman and none for Blears.

Cruddas won Southend West's nomination last night. Not sure of the exact figures but he beat Johnson in a close final round. Benn got a few votes, but not many for Harman or Blears, and none at all for Hain.

Cruddas won all three seats in Southampton and Kingston as well
I think also both southend seats and castle point !!
does anyone disagree than Hain is over.

Guido has Blears dropping out of the frame ... perhaps we should give him the nod and tell him to ditch Hain (as well).
Man Central are having a hustings on 31st ... Man Wit are supposedly having a GC on the matter just three miles away at the same time as the candidates are doing their stuff. Which is weird.
What's the point of nominating Brown Luke?
That is a rhetorical question. But Oh Dear I hope plenty of CLPs don't bother with that. Whether they would have supported Brown or not he has enough nominations already ...

The Holborn & St.Pancras vote was 35 Cruddas, 13 Johnson, 10 Benn, and (inexplicably) as many as 6 votes for Harriet Harman. Hain and Blears did not get votes and had not nominating speakers.

johnson won scunthorpe, cruddas came second. no one else got more than a handful, and hain came bottom with two votes.

Ealing Central and Acton supported Hilary Benn by a walkover on first ballot - but then he is a member of the CLP. Andy Slaughter announced at the meeting that Hammersmith had nominated him earlier on in the evening, with Harriet Harman second.

This business of supporting nominations reminds me of the 1980s, when CLPs and affiliates cast their votes in the electoral college on the basis, in most cases, of GC or national executive decisions.
Quite rightly, these votes are now OMOV -- the enduring legacy of John Smith's leadership.
My GC decided that the CLP -- Richmond Park -- should make no supporting nominations. The majority felt that the CLP should remain neutral, and allow members to make their own decisions.

Islington North first round vote was 18 for Harman, 17 Cruddas, Benn 9, Hain 1, Johnson 1, Blears 0.
And bizarrely by the numbers about ten who'd turned up can't have voted.
