Debating with whom?

The links page on kamikaze tendency website 2020 Vision shows an interesting sense of what other organisations this elite group of "progressives" consider worthy of engaging in debate.

Top of the list is Tory think-tank Policy Exchange, intellectual home of the Cameroons.

Bottom of the list is the think tank set up in memory of Labour's last leader, The Smith Institute.

We can draw our own conclusions about their regard for Labour's intellectual and ideological heritage.

I have a pet theory - which I hope I'm wrong about - that some or all of the Byers/Milburn/Field posse might be gearing up to defect to the Tories after Brown's been in charge for a while. Their numerous comments on inheritance tax, school vouchers, hating Brown, etc. could be designed to give them that option without looking too much like a sudden desperate careerist betrayal.

No I don't believe that to be the case.

I wish they would go. We'd be better off without them.

Yes, Milburn and Clarke should sod off sharpish where they truly belong. In the Tory Party The website is platitudinous claptrap and makes me want to be sick.I would feel sorryfor Gordon if he wasn't talking rubbish too.God help the Labour Party

Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Their site also links to Compass, which isn't desperately ultra-/uber-/neo-Blairite...

My view is that Compass is the reverse side of the same coin as 2020 Vision.

Both promote pretentious policy discussions, and seem infected by an arrogant belief that they have some special insight into policy that mere mortals like Gordon Brown don't posess.

Back 10 years ago Neal Lawson would have been chairing the Milburn/Clarke gig.

Er. And who was chairing this one? Anyway. C and M are big pants. The list of links is pretty random and, who cares? We need a challenge from the sensible left not the bonkers right ... if Brown is not right wing enough for these two they should never have been allowed in the Labour Party and they should be kicked out asap. To spend more time with their families and all that. Pair of complete and utter contemptible tossers.

So says a cowardly wanker who's backing Michael Meacher.

Chris Paul, you need help. Seriously.

Hi Luke

I've belatedly posted a reply to a topic you wrote about me a few days back here http://www2.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=28811162&postID=4967429920810127230

Thanks for the clarification Rory -sorry to acuse you of being in AWL if you are not!

I think it is your branch chair Chris who is AWL. Why isn't he on the GC?

I notice a prominent member of Socialist Action has also just joined your ward ...

See you at the next GC.

I don't really know Chris well. I think he may be on the GC at some point as a union delegate but I don't know why he didn't stand as a branch delegate. The AWL haven't come up in conversation at any of the branch meetings I've been at so far so can't tell you any more about that side of things.

I didn't know Socialist Action even existed any more, but maybe I'll soon know more if we now have one in the branch.

See you at the GC.

Cowardly "Trevor": Er, I am categorically NOT backing Michael Meacher. He is not part of the sensible left on any reasonable definition. He is a rentier to make millions, a warmonger to continue being a minister, and a conspiracy theorist for who knows why. These not forgiveable attributes.

Why on earth would you think I am? Do you just like typing random rudeness?

"Do you just like typing random rudeness?"

Hypocrite alert!

How else would you describe calling two former Labour cabinet ministers a "pair of complete and utter contemptible tossers" who "should never have been allowed in the Labour Party" and who "should be kicked out asap" if not "RUDENESS"?

In yer face, Commie!

Clever Trevor: Got me! except that I am not a cowardly wanker supporting Meacher and Laurel and Hardy ARE contemptible tossers. Apart from that ... you got me.

Alright, sorry for calling you a Meacher fan! But if you aren't supporting him, then who is? :)
