A blog by Luke Akehurst about politics, elections, and the Labour Party - With subtitles for the Hard of Left. Just for the record: all the views expressed here are entirely personal and do not necessarily represent the positions of any organisations I am a member of.

Hello

I'm interested to find out who the 250-ish people are who read this blog most days but never post a comment.

In blog-speak you are known rather insultingly as "lurkers" - I prefer "readers".

So in the spirit of the "readers' meetings" that Militant used to have, this post is an online "readers' meeting".

If you have never posted a comment before (maybe because you agree with everything I say!) please break your silence and say hi, and tell us a bit about who you are and where you are from, why you read the site (is it because you agree with it or you enjoy being wound up by things you disagree with?) and any suggestions you have (e.g. topics I should post more about).

I'm a reasonably regular reader Luke although I rarely, if ever, leave a comment - I will endeavour to be more 'involved' in the future!!

And, for the record, my lack of contributions to date is not (as you'll appreciate if you read my blog) a sign that I always agree with you..!

Regards, Cassilis

I'm a recovering lurker. In fact I have a Lurkers' Anonymous meeting in half an hour...

I find myself disagreeing with you on many issues, but this is a lively blog, and it's always interesting to see read about things from another perspective! Keep it up.

I read it every day, just to see what your take is on issues of the day. I usually agree. It's also good displacement activity when I should be writing speeches.

I recognised you in Manchester and said hello and how much I enjoyed your blog; only to think afterwards how spooky it must be to be approached by a complete stranger who reads your daily diary. Yours is an intelligent and informative blog; often challenging, but that's what makes it worth reading.

I log on several times each day, often from different PCs and locations, so I guess I am making quite a contribution to the figures of your spoof site.

I do the same.So it looks like you don't really have much of a readership. Which I find 'very heartening news'.

I come here only by chance when I forget the other address, and then realise I have to add "sblog" to "lukeakehurst.blogspot.com" (between the 'akehurst' and the '.blogspot' bits).

In the spirit of the 'Militant Readers' Meetings', if I read your blog enough, make a few financial donations which you then acknowledge, post a few more comments, will you let me into what your 'real plans' are, i.e. 'this isn't just a blog, in fact I want to take over the country, will you join in, but it's all very secret and therefore will be incredibly boring' (a kind of pre-Internet Labour Ward Branch 'grooming' exercise)- you know what I mean.

I won't tell anyone, promise!

Hello Luke ... I read it every now and again for political analysis from a sensible perspective. Tal reads it for updates on progress in Hackney ... but each to their own.

We like to keep an eye on what you're up to. We suspect you might be a closet communist.

I haven't left a comment yet because I agree with just about everything you say so haven't found it necessary - but perhaps i should have!

I'm v chair of a CLP in the North East that has a lunatic lefty fringe which recruits strongly amongst the focaccia-eating classess. One pearler recently from one of my comrades was "I only sought employment in my youth to show solidarity with the working classes"

I'm sure they were very grateful!

Keep up the good work.
